Certification as an approved welding company according to EN ISO 3834-2,-3,-44

The approval of welding companies in Austria according to ÖNORM M 7812 -1 has a very long tradition, as the first edition of this standard took place in May 1974. To this day, the approval of a welding company serves as proof of quality that the approved welding company is in a position to carry out the welding joint according to the respective application..

The international recognition of welding companies according to ÖNORM M 7812-1 will not be possible in the future due to the harmonization of standards and the free movements of goods. The approval of welding companies will be replaced by the certification of welding companies according to the standard EN ISO 3834 (part 2 to 4).

Quality management in the area of welding:

Certification according to EN ISO 3834-2, -3, -4

With the EN ISO 3834 series of standards, an internationally recognised set of rules for welding technology has been created. Its application is meant to ensure that the welds to be carried out, for example as part of product manufacture, are performed in the most efficient and effective manner in accordance with the requirements.

The systematic recognition of factors affecting the quality of the welded joints and the according measurements to create flawless welded products determine the applied management system.

Even the most comprehensive and highest developed non-destructive weld examination does not improve the quality of the produced welded joint. Therefore, the quality of a welded joint itself cannot be tested, but has to be guaranteed during the production.

The series of standards EN ISO 3834 is a process oriented body of rules and does not apply to a specific range of products. This explains why, even in the highest part of the application (EN ISO 3834-2), there are not always clearly defined demands on the manufacturing process, but only but only aspects of quality assurance that need to be taken into account and their possibilities of implementation. In cases where compliance with a product-related standard (EN 1090, EN 13480, EN 13445, EN 15085, etc.) is required for legal or contractual reasons, the requirements are usually clearer defined when product-related and process-related standards are examined together. As a result, order verification and the associated search for applicable product standards is the core content of the series of standards.

When does a certification make sense?

A certification according to EN ISO 3834 is not required if a manufacturer is certified according to a product standard (e.g.: EN 1090-2 or EN 15085-2) and only produces within the scope of these standards because the contents of the already existing certification are taken into account.

Especially in connection with product groups that are not covered by these standards and secured by company certifications, certification according to EN ISO 3834 provides objective proof of quality assurance. Such product groups are, for example: Mechanical engineering, pipeline construction, pressure vessel construction, aerospace, automotive industry
